How do you Attach a River Knife to your Buoyancy Aid?

Often on our Saftey & Rescue courses, we see clients tying thier knives to their Buoyancy aids so they dont loose them. A question we alsways ask them is that Safe?

What if you drop the knife while in the water?

Would it not be safer to just loose the knife rather than potentially repeatedly stab yourself?

 

All a choice of risk sort of thing really but the idea in the video below was novel to us so thought we would share.
